Fela Kuti's vast back catalogue can be difficult to navigate for newcomers, so box sets like this one can be a good starting point. "Co-curated" by Kuti's son, Femi, and (for reasons that aren't explained) Coldplay's Chris Martin, the box contains five legendary albums (Why Black Man Dey Suffer, Noise For Vendor Mouth, Kalakuta Show, Excuse O, Ikoyi Business, Original Sufferhead and Overtake Don Overtake Overtake) in replica original Nigerian covers. The box also boasts an excellent 20-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes by Femi Kuti, Chris Martin and Afrobeat historian Chis May, plus a poster designed by Fela Kuti's favourite illustrator. It's a great package all told.
