After five years spent focusing on the more experimental and otherworldly side of his sound, Berlin-based Canadian Aquarian returns to the dancefloor via a two-part EP on Dekmantel's UFO offshoot. There's much to admire on this first EP, with opener 'Death, Taxes & Hanger' delivering a near perfect fusion of skittish old school jungle beats, ten-ton bass, razor-sharp riffs and electronic motifs so beautiful and melancholic they might make you cry. There's a similarly bittersweet feel at the heart of soundscape breakbeat shuffler 'Rene Likes The Steak', while 'Sam Handwich' sounds like an unlikely jam between Kraftwerk, LFO and Dutch electro stalwart I-F. Closing cut 'Dead Whale', meanwhile, is frankly frightening - off-kilter, experimental D&B at its finest.
