Parlophone are embarking on a mammoth Bowie reissue campaign. 'Toy' was released posthumously in 2021, but was a miraculous feat, in that it spanned songs that were written as far back as 1964, and recorded in 2000. The intention behind the album was to rehearse and record the songs before releasing them as quickly as possible; it was later shelved, however, due to financial and production hell. Finally released after Bowie's passing, it presented a truly sentimental, naive and straight-talking Bowie feel, his best crack at art rock via dream pop.
