The BEATLES
PLEASE PLEASE ME
5th PRESS UK LP
EJ DAY COVER
*"MKT" TAX CODE*
*HEAVYWEIGHT 172g*
&
*SUPERB AUDIO*
This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker, New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.
Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

HEAVYWEIGHT QUALITY 172g
EX.
VERY, very nice, heavy & shiny vinyl! She carries only some very light and insignificant marks to her, which make barely any difference to the audio reproduction. I have just finished listening to all of her and I certainly didn't find any jumps or sticks to either side....Just QUALITY audio with really deep bassy lines and high troughs-wonderful dynamic range to this heavyweight slab of original vinyl!
To be ultra critical I noticed some very minimal and only very occasional light background noise-really nothing to detract from the DEEP rich and clear bass, with an overall superb audio reproduction! Only noticed this a couple of times throughout the whole album and it really isn't worth mentioning as it was just noticeable inbetween a couple of tracks.
FLAT, HEAVY AND ALL ORIGINAL!
GREAT RAW SOUND WITH SUPERB CLARITY.
Labels:
VG+.
There's barely any central hole wear-as can be seen in the detailed images provided, with some light spindle marks, evident only when angled towards the light and looking for them.
Outer rim text starts with "The Parlophone Co.Ltd" "Recording First Published 1963" stated under the printed matrix number.
NO "Sold In UK..." statement...Showing it is the 5th pressing.
There is just a small amount of tapoe residue to side 1 and two small initials to the £ sign on side 2...Really are great labels and ready for framing.
GREAT SOLID EXAMPLE
**********************
Now, here's the more unusual fact about this label:
Really rather rare "MKT" tax code to side 1!
(This is an unusual tax code for this lp as the MT tax code was used from January 1963 and only until the 1st of June 1963...a very short running indeed and as this record was released in March 1963...THIS IS THE TRANSITIONAL STAMPING-it is a very unusual label indeed!)
