Swingshift Records has long-since established itself as a more-than-reliable label for reissues and unearthed gems, with its back catalogue boasting a host of rarities and classics from musical greats. Sisters of Mercy? Check. The Cure? You bet. New Order? Yep. Talking Heads? Of course. Point made, it came as little surprise to find this collection of archival recordings for the mighty BBC lined up on the imprint's release schedule. Not the only bit of Siouxsie & The Banshees that has come our way recently, suffice to say what's here represents the outfit in some of their finest hours. Formed in 1976, the band's early years marked them out as one of the most exciting at the intersection between punk, the nascent post punk and goth movements which were gathering pace at the time. Here laid bare in all its experimental, explorative glory, you can almost feel the fresh ideas bubbling over as the first chapters of a decade spanning legacy were written.
