Astonishingly, five years have now passed since Australian combo Mildlife announced themselves via the release of debut album, Phase. Vinyl copies of the set have been hard to come by of late, hence this helpful reissue. Sitting somewhere between jazz-funk, psychedelia, space jazz and krautrock, it's an immersive set of songs and instrumentals that have lost none of their charm and depth over the last five years. Highlights include the deep and intergalactic 'Im Blau', the sparkling and upbeat 'The Magnificent Moon', the slow-motion wonder of title track 'Phase' and the dancefloor-ready grooves and spiralling solos of 'The Gloves Don't Bite'.
