Leeds indie outfit English Teacher deliver a two-track 'EP' for Nice Swan (ahead of a 5 tracker yet to come), happily riding the wave of their recent come-up in the city's towering alternative scene. Taking flight from their earlier, simpler style of up-down indie rock, 'Polyawkward' lends a better produced sheen to the still fresh-faced band's palette. 'A55' is an earnest, navel-gazing slow build, with Lily Fontaine lyrically drawing on her own personal battle with hangxiety. 'Good Grief', meanwhile, adds a refreshingly painless drum machine to its backing, signaling a new semi-electronic direction for the band. The song likens the government's COVID Track and Trace scheme to a jealously paranoid relationship. Clever!
