GLENN MILLER - THE VERY BEST OF (180G VINYL LP) NEW/SEALED
Miller and his band enjoyed both popularity and commercial success in the years before Pearl Harbour. No fewer than 17 Top 10 hits were recorded in 1939, 31 in 1940 and 11 in 1941. This led to other ventures, such as the radio series Moonlight Serenade that aired on CBS three times a week, and appearances in movies like Sun Valley Serenade (1941) and Orchestra Wives (1942). The magic of the sound lay in the employment of a clarinet to play the melody. This was doubled by a sax, while the other three saxophones harmonised within a single octave. As Miller told Metronome magazine in 1939, ‘The fifth sax, playing clarinet most of the time, lets you know whose band you’re listening to. And that’s about all there is to it.’ Miller and his merry men set the mood of not only his fellow troops but whole nations. He, and they, will never be forgotten.
