Originally released in 2006, The Things We Carry marked the debut full-length from Bostonian youth crew indebted straight edge hardcore lifers Have Heart. While both vocalist Pat Flynn and drummer Shawn Costa keep busy nowadays in post-hardcore outfit Fiddlehead (along with Basement's Alex Henery), both initially cut their teeth and earned their stripes in the scene during this intense tenure, where they would go from underground unknowns to delivering what would later be referred to as "the defining hardcore record of the century so far". With a lyrical focus prioritising self-betterment and maturity, Flynn's earnest musings would expand upon the early youth crew sentiments with the type of insights that would eventually cement the band as the new exemplary standard for melodic hardcore. It also shouldn't come as much of a shock that a frontman with such poignant lyrical prowess would later become a school teacher, but the kind that will use his summer break to headline a slew of hardcore festivals, which is what's currently on Mr Flynn's agenda. Reissued by their original label Bridge Nine to coincide with their 2024 summer reunion run, including headlining Manchester's Outbreak Fest, mark our words when we say these gorgeous translucent split yellow represses of both this and the band's 2008 sophomore follow up Songs To Scream At The Sun, will vanish in a flash and join their highly inflated siblings on Discogs.
