Purchased recently from a radio stations' archive. Stored in a case in protective heavy green card stock covers. This one is in VG/VG+ condition, very glossy with no scratches showing and showing very little age, as you can see by the scan! Very glossy with low play wear or evidence of play. The HD audio sample is full range, so you can hear things you NEVER hear in the reissue recordings.
The original 78's while a little lacking in fidelity, DID in fact have a much better frequency spread than is represented in reissues we hear today. The remastering process often rolls off the high end, as they didn't think there was anything there worth hearing! I think different. I archived this using a special 78 stylus for my Shure m44 cartridge that really brings out the fullness of these old grooves! A truly splendid original, that you very rarely see anymore, much less in this amazing condition! Enjoy the full song, featured below in HD streaming audio with the trail on and trail out grooves… A treat for your ears!
While there are a few artifacts in these old 78's, with a little bit of play wear audible, you are hearing mostly what this 78 sounded like when it was new. There is some surface noise and ticks that are artifacts from the pressing process, and some slight evidence of play… but the fact of the matter is, these were taken from fresh masters that sounded better than the source masters used for the CD and reissue versions we hear today… so it's entirely likely that this version will sound better than those in many ways, which is why these originals still sell! Thank you for coming by and happy listening! I have other Billie Holiday 78's that I will try to list tonight.
