Presenting Connan Mockasin's third album, and first in five years, the laid back New Zealander hits the nail on the head for New York label Mexican Summer. A Brooklyn imprint responsible for releasing a wild array of music from Oneohtrix Point Never to John Carpenter and Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Mockasin's Jassbusters delivers a summery malaise of calming moody blues, with shades of Fleetwood Mac not too distant in album highlight and opener "Charlotte's Thong". Delivering an album of neo R&B, pop and soul, the LP features a guest appearance from James Blake on "Momo's" - that doesn't take anything away from the delightful, breaking vocal chords of Mockasin's voice in "Con Conn Was Impatient".
