Bill Plummer & The Cosmic Brotherhood 1968 JOURNEY TO THE EAST LP Impulse

Rare opportunity to acquire this original Impulse Records album by the enlightened bassist who made his name playing on the Rolling Stones' 2LP EXILE ON MAIN STREET. This seven-track album of eastern orientated Mothers Of Invention cosmic jazz rock was purchased as new 'old stock' in 1978 by Julian Cope, who found several unplayed copies in Rumbelows, Liverpool. The item was immediately kept safe in a clear, thick polythene bag and rarely played. The 2mm hole bored through the lower left front of the gatefold is the US equivalent of their later cut-outs. The gatefold, being a typical US heavy card full gloss item, displays precious little wear of any kind, though there is a small lift of the laminate upon the centre section of its sturdy backbone of a spine. Both sides have been played and sound wonderful. Nothing to report on side one other that random minor crackles here and here, one genuine large pop across the entire side. On Side Two, the ten-minute Track 1 'Arc 294' exhibits some crackles at the beginning that continue for a full minute, then disappear. Track 2, 'Lady Friend' is clean save for one unfortunate jump out of nowhere, but six pops were counted – not loud, but very clear, on the final epic freakout 'Antares'. A few issues to report, then, but still a handsome and delightfully preserved late '60s item. Many thanks for looking.
