An original 1st issue copy of DSOTM on the UK harvest label from summer 1973. Matrix A3/B2. The labels mention "Gramophone" in the perimeter label text. This is a vitally important thing to spot as these are the copies that come immediately after the highly sought after solid blue triangle 1st pressings. Estimate for pressing is summer 1973 perhaps 4-5 months after 1st release - and it would have still have been high up in the charts. Also worth insisting on these early copies as they were pressed way heavier than later copies. The vinyl comes housed in an orginal gatefold cover. We have the original 1st issue black inner sleeve with patent information. Sorry there's NO stickers or posters. This copy is strictly for the audiophiles who are hell bent on best audio.>>>>
Vinyl (Ex+) Ok, so this is one superbly preserved copy and has clearly seen only very light use. Under close inspection I'm really struggling to spot anything much at all. Maybe a couple of really low-level superficial markings..absolutely nothing that's going to get remotely near the audio. I think I can safely say that this copy aces it in all areas. I have not heard DSOTM this good - period. You've got all the things, here, to get you to audio nirvana. Firstly, the copy is solid and EMI were clearly quite capable of pressing great audio into their records. Secondly, we're a matter of only a few months from those famous masters. Thirdly, and most importantly...someone has clearly looked after this copy and played it sparingly on decent equipment. I'm picking up practically no signs of use at all which is extremely unusual on DSOTM. Needless to say the audio is absolutely top-level. Get a solid-blue triangle copy [if you like]...But most copies out there will not manage to equal the audio on offer here. Can I criticise it in someway? Well, it's pretty hard to find fault. We're talking, maybe, a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. E.g. in that famous heart-beat intro. But 90% of copies do not play the intro this clean. Overall, if you're on a quest for audio nirvana on this title - and can't run to a proper top-level solid blue triangle copy, then clearly you need to be taking a serious look at this copy. For me it's a FINAL UPGRADE. [and that does not come around often].
Cover (Ex/Ex-) Very nice and respectable looking cover. Many will look quite tatty by this point in time. But someone's clearly looked after it. Very nice clean and flat front and rear - with only one slight crease on the rear. Precious little sign of surface wear - which is typically the let down. There's one very slight blemish on the rear [no big deal at all]. The interior is immaculate. Edge wear is extremely limited and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is 100% intact. Structurally the cover retains integrity and remains nice and rigid. A lovely specimen for sure.
Inner (Ex) Very nice indeed. No splits or tears. Slightest creasing.
