Up for auction is a nice rare copy of the David Bowie album "Space Oddity" originally released in the U.S. on RCA Records (LSP-4813) in 1972.
-Guaranteed original First Pressing, not reissue like most for sale -Correct First Pressing orange RCA labels
-Dynaflex pressing indicated on labels
-True First pressing A1/A2 etched in run-out matrix
-Deep groove indentation around spindle holes
-Promotional round punch hole in upper right corner
-Original color insert/inner sleeve w/ lyrics
-Includes rare fold-out poster
-No UPC/bar code on cover -From my personal collection
Note: The original promo copies of this record had the round factory punch holes in upper right corner with no other promo markings except sometimes a white time strip pasted to front, which was very unattractive and distracting.
There were later promo copies of the black label reissues of this record with gold promo stamps on the back, but they are not original pressings on the original orange labels, nor are they particularly rare, regardless of what certain sellers may claim. Also the reissues had the later catalog number "AFL1-4813" printed above the title on the cover. This one does not have that number, thus much more rare.
Condition: The cover is still in very nice condition with only minor signs of previous wear and age. Front has a very light crease bottom left. Very light ring rubbing front and back at top and bottom middle. Minor rub to the seams and corners. Seams are intact, no splits or separations. An attractive copy. Grade the cover Excellent Minus (EX-).
The poster is in Excellent (EX) condition. No obvious wear or age discoloration, no pin holes or tape repairs. Fold creases are still nice, not worn. One tiny (1/2") closed tear top center (no losses or chips). Very nice original!
The vinyl disc is in beautiful condition, still retains its original high gloss shine and luster. No scratches or scuffs, no marks. Labels are clean, no marks around spindle holes. Looks like it's been played maybe once or twice. This copy has been in my collection for 30 years, archived and un-played. Very nice copy.
Play-Tested: the record sounds excellent, no distracting issue, clean and clear. Like all original '70s original pressings, even NM copies, this is not audiophile clean, but it is a great sounding original. Grade the record Near Mint (NM).
