·       PLEASE NOTE: IN THE INTEREST OF FULL DISCLOSURE, WE SHOULD NOTE THAT WE STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH MOST COLLECTORS AS TO WHAT CONSTITUTES THE FIRST PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM. NAMELY, OVER THE YEARS, WE HAVE MET AT LEAST FOUR INDIVIDUALS WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE SEEN OR HELD A NEAR-MYTHICAL 2-TONE LABEL PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM, WHICH WOULD (HYPOTHETICALLY) PRECEDE THE PRESSING WE HAVE HERE BY AT LEAST 3 TO 6 MONTHS. HOWEVER, WE HAVE NOT ONCE IN 42 YEARS OF COLLECTING SEEN ANY SUCH REPRISE PRESSING, AND WE CLAIM THAT SUCH PRESSINGS CAN ONLY BE  RCA RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS, NOT THE REGULAR REPRISE PRESSINGS (ONE SUCH SPECIMEN WAS RECENTLY AUCTIONED ON EBAY, AND THE SELLER EVEN HAD B*LLS TO COPY PARTS OF THIS DESCRIPTION, BUT CHANGED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART: INSTEAD OF DESCRIBING IT AS A RECORD CLUB PRESSING, HE BRILLIANTLY - AND DELIBERATELY - CLAIMED IT TO BE THE "INSANELY RARE" FIRST PRESSING): NAMELY, RCA RECORD CLUB PRESSINGS ARE EASILY IDENTIFIED BY THE FOLLOWING MARKS: (a) THIN VINYL (b) MACHINE STAMP IN TRAIL-OFF VINYL, TYPICALLY ENDING WITH -1S/-1S  (c) GLOSSY LABELS (d) DISTINCT FONT ON THE LABELS AND (e) WORD ‘STEREO’ ON THE LABEL PRINTED IN STRAIGHT LINE, NOT CURVED).  IF ANYONE CARES TO DISSUADE US AND SEND US A JPEG OR BMP IMAGE OF THE ALLEGEDLY “ORIGINAL”, GENUINE 2-TONE REPRISE STOCK LABEL, WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO LOOK INTO THIS AND RECONSIDER OUR POSITION.  UNTIL THEN, WE REMAIN UNIMPRESSED AND EXTREMELY SKEPTICAL: WE HOLD THAT THE PRESSING YOU SEE HERE IS THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE FIRST REPRISE PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM AND NOT, REPEAT, NOT A SECOND OR LATER PRESSING. THIS STATEMENT IS SUPPORTED BY THE FACT THE EVEN THE WHITE LABEL PROMO PRESSINGS OF ‘AFTER THE GOLD RUSH’ LACK THE W-7 LOGO FOUND ON THE REGULAR 2-TONE REPRISE PRESSINGS, SIGNIFYING THAT THE ALBUM WAS DEFINITELY ISSUED AFTER THE 2-TONE REPRISE WAS DISCONTINUED FOR ALL PRESSINGS EXCEPT FOR THE RCA RECORD CLUB RELEASES.. IF YOU HAVE ANY MISGIVINGS ABOUT THIS STATEMENT, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU REFRAIN FROM BIDDING. PLEASE BE ADVISED ACCORDINGLY.

In the 15 months between the release of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After the Gold Rush, Neil Young issued a series of recordings in different styles that could have prepared his listeners for the differences between the two LPs. His two compositions on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young album Déjà Vu, "Helpless" and "Country Girl," returned him to the folk and country styles he had pursued before delving into the hard rock of Everybody Knows; two other singles, "Sugar Mountain" and "Oh, Lonesome Me," also emphasized those roots. But "Ohio," a CSNY single, rocked as hard as anything on the second album. After the Gold Rush was recorded with the aid of Nils Lofgren, a 17-year-old unknown whose piano was a major instrument, turning one of the few real rockers, "Southern Man" (which had unsparing protest lyrics typical of Phil Ochs), into a more stately effort than anything on the previous album and giving a classic tone to the title track, a mystical ballad that featured some of Young's most imaginative lyrics and became one of his most memorable songs. But much of After the Gold Rush consisted of country-folk love songs, which consolidated the audience Young had earned through his tours and recordings with CSNY; its dark yet hopeful tone matched the tenor of the times in 1970, making it one of the definitive singer/songwriter albums, and it has remained among Young's major achievements.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY WILLIAM RUHLMAN, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or   for the complete album listing).

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(c)           The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(d)          The album comes with its original insert / lyrics sheet

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
