"Long before he sold substantial numbers of records, began to earn a reputation as the best live act in rock & roll. Fans had been clamoring for a live album for a long time, and with they got what they wanted, at least in terms of bulk. His concerts were marathons, and this box set, including 40 tracks and running over three and a half hours, was about the average length of a show. In his brief liner notes, spoke of the emergence of the album's "story" as he reviewed live tapes, and that story seems nothing less than a history of his life, his concerns, and his career. The first cuts present the of the early to mid-'70s; these performances, most of them drawn from a July 1978 show at the Roxy in Los Angeles, give us the romantic, hopeful, earnest of "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" and "Thunder Road." The second section begins with his first Top Ten hit, "Hungry Heart" -- this is the of the late '70s and early '80s, an arena rock star with working-class concerns. After an acoustic mini-set given largely to material from -- songs of economic desperation and crime -- comes a reshuffling of ., songs in which and his characters start to fight back and rock out. Finally, he brings it all back home to New Jersey, starting with the unofficial state anthem, "Born to Run," and including "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" and "Jersey Girl." Fans could rejoice that it found room for seven previously unreleased songs, including "Because the Night," but it wasn't as funny, as moving, or as exhilarating as a show could be. Maybe no single album, however long, could have been, but where impressed in concert because he tried so hard, here he seemed to have tried a little too hard to make a live album carry the freight of everything he had to say."

Bruce in concert is just like Bruce sitting on his front step, playing with the kids or shooting the breeze with a friend. The stage is his living room couch, where he entertains all of his friends. When you are in that audience, you are his friend! Bruce always gives everything for his friends, I know that personally! This is a 5-lp box set of live concert performances, I was at only 3 of those concerts, I only get to see my buddy when he plays here on the west coast. The Winterland show was special ‘cause it was a comeback tour of sorts, in 1978, and it was one of the first concerts I saw after moving to California in ’77. The LA Coliseum show was Magic, one of his best on the Born In The U.S.A. tour, and the Roxy show in L.A. was NUTS, with Bruce having the time of his life on that little stage! There are 40 performances here. There were no touch-ups, no canned applause, no “re-recorded in the studio and made to sound live” cuts here. This is Pure Springsteen Excitement, HOURS of it!

People ask me about the song “Darlington County” all the time. I keep telling them the truth, that my Uncle Frank was a friend of Bruce’s Dad, Doug. I’m sure the conversations included my last name, which is very unique, and Doug would mention that he knew my Uncle, who lived in Bishipville, in Darlington County, in South Carolina. The song is not “about” me, it’s more “inspired” by my uncle and me. Bruce writes like that!

I have graded this 5-lp box set as NM NEAR MINT for the 5 vinyl LPS, which played like they were almost BRAND NEW! Side 6 has a Sleeve Scuff on it that can hardly be heard. It is not a scratch, it is a Sleeve Scuff... so I am sticking to my NM so no complaints! All 5 discs have etched into the deadwax runout "MASTERDISK", indicating that they have superior sonic engineering! The back of the box says that this album was mastered by BOB LUDWIG HIMSELF! Bob is known as "THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN EAR" and he worked on the some of the BEST albums by Led Zeppelin, John Lennon, Rush, The Police, Steely Dan, Def Leppard and s many others! ONE PHOTO IS A LITTLE MESSED UP, ALL 5 DISCS ARE THE SAME RED COLOR! The 5 original picture sleeves are included! The Box itself is VG++ in very STURDY condition, with the usual scuffs and minor wear that these box sets pick up. There is a bar code. The  33-page Book, which is in Beautiful condition! The only thing NOT included is my Fender 1950’s Fender Telecaster guitar with the Custome Bigsby tailpiece and whammy bar! You’ll have to get your own, this one’s Mine! LOL! So here is one of the most Amazing box sets ever! Don’t Miss It!!! Good Luck!
