Released in 1998, Electro-Shock Blues was the second studio album from Eels. A true cult classic, the record was a form of musical therapy for bandleader Mark Oliver Everett, who wrote it in response to the deaths of his mother through cancer and sister through suicide - leaving him the last surviving member of his family.
Stark, overcast and often devastating, the record houses some of Everett’s most poignant songs in the likes of 3 Speed, Climbing Up to the Moon and The Medication is Wearing Off, not to mention the incomparable gem Last Stop: This Town.
Highly recommended!
