This one is the first mono pressing of John Coltrane's COLTRANE.  Prestige Records PRLP-7158. This is an original issue from Prestige Records, not a reissue version.  John Coltrane first solo album with Prestige as a leader.  Recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in 1957, with "RVG" stamped on the dead wax of both sides.  Deep Groove on both labels.  Labels address: PRESTIGE RECORDS INC., 446 W, 50th. ST. N.Y.C.

John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Johnnie Splawn (trumpet), Sahib Shihab (baritone saxophone), Red Garland/Mal Waldron (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), Al Heath (drums).

The vinyl looks and plays VG+ on both sides.  Gross and shiny.  Side 1 has 2 small feelable scratches of around 3/4 centimeter at the end of song no.3 and 1 small feelable scratch of around 1/4 centimeter at the beginning of song no.2.  Side 2 has 1 small feelable light line of about 1/2 of a song no. 1.  All produce small tics.  And there are signs of groove ware on both sides that produce small pops during soft passages (but not overpowering the music.)

The laminated cover is VG.  Strong but dirt on back.  Bruises and wares on spine and corners.  Around 1 inch split at the lower right corner.

The record is play graded as well as visually. I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws.

My grading is as follows: M (perfectly like new), NM, VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G, G-.

You will be satisfied.  And I will accept a free return.  Please bid with confidence.
