The Rolling Stones 'No. 2' (LK 4661) was released in the UK in January 1965 and followed more or less the same formula as their self-titled debut release 8 months earlier. 'No.2' became one of the most successful albums released that year and copies of this Stones classic can be found with some effort in used record stores in the UK and other parts of Europe. However, to find a copy which was pressed during the very beginning of the pressing run is quite difficult. Even harder, is finding one in almost unplayed condition. Not only is the one I am offering in remarkable Near Mint condition, but it also comes in its first, "uncensored" jacket. This is also known as the "blind man" text cover (please see 3rd to last photo). Decca records concluded that the story printed on the back cover (involving a "blind man"), was offensive and subsequently removed and/or covered up that portion from future copies. Only a few thousand were sold before a recall was made making them quite rare.
Cover: Excellent++......these original covers were made using extremely thin card stock and are almost always found with unsightly stains, tears, dirt, and other problems. To find one in the condition offered here is definitely the exception. This James Upton flip-backed printed sleeve hardly has any issues apart from some minor creases and some normal age discoloration. The lamination still has a lovely shine...the back of the jacket (usually found soiled and worn) is also very clean and mostly devoid of any serious issues. Have a good look at the pictures. A better example you are unlikely to find.
Original Poly-Lined Inner-Sleeve: Excellent.....showing normal age discoloration and creases but incredibly, without any splits. A high quality inner will be included to house the precious record.
Record: Near Mint......Incredibly clean....almost beyond belief. Even under strong light I was only able to see a couple of superficial wispy lines which have zero effect during playback. Both sides of the thick and heavy vinyl gleam beautifully with labels that are deep-grooved with hardly any spindle marks visible. Of note, the "Made In England" designation is printed on the top portion of the labels, signifying that this is indeed an early pressing. The Mono mix is bold, clear, detailed, and without a second of distortion....stunning. An easy contender for a final upgrade copy.
