Jazz 1U/1U (1st pressing with Attached Poster)

This first pressing is absolutely stunning and is one of the best I have ever heard.  It includes the infamous poster which remains 100% attached to the gatefold which is very much a rarity today.

 Visual grading

This vinyl is absolutely stunning.  At first glance it looks 'as new' and retains an incredible glossy.  On closer inspection under a strong bright light I can only detect a couple of very fine hairlines but that is it!  The S1 label only has a couple of barely visible spindle traces and it is obvious this vinyl has been barely played and the audio confirms that.  The vinyl has always been kept inside a poly-lined inner inside the picture sleeve which explains how it has maintained its amazing quality over the last 40 years (nearly!).

Play grading

'Mustapha' plays superbly with a minimal amount of static but it is not intrusive in any way.  It is so much in the background and is totally negligible.  The audio is of a very high standard and the clarity is first class.  In fact all tracks on this side play with a depth and warmth that is so rare to find on a genuine first press today.  'Jealousy' for example has stunning audio apart from a little static on the fade out.  Every song plays with Near Mint quality if not better, the standard is exceptional.  The majority plays as Mint if I'm honest and 'If You Can't Beat Them' is a prime example of this which is literally Mint all the way through.  Yes there is the odd dust tick on S1 in the quieter sections but you will find that on new vinyl let alone one that is nearly 40 years old!  This is a real find the audio of which would be difficult to beat.  There are no clicks, pops or jumps anywhere.

Side Two more than equals Side One.  The clarity, richness and depth of the audio again is incredible.  'In Only Seven Days' plays perfectly apart from three light clicks on the fade out.  Strange as I can't see what is causing it as there is no scratch or dust fleck so maybe it is a pressing fault.  For a relatively quiet track 'Dreamers Ball' has wonderful audio bar the odd almost imperceptible static sound.  This can't really be viewed as negative as the audio is still of the highest quality.  The remaining tracks play with stunning quality and again grade as Mint, a strong claim to make but one I am confident in stating.  I grade honestly as my feedback testifies.  'Leaving Home Ain't Easy' for example has some quiet passages and yet they play with sublime quality and no interference whatsoever.  'Don't Stop Me Now' is another highlight and has immaculate power and strength with no distortion.

In summary 99% of the audio here is of the highest quality imaginable and is a final upgrade archive copy without doubt.  Rarely have I heard such clarity and definition on a first 1U/1U pressing and the fact that the gatefold still has the poster 100% attached makes this a genuine rarity.

Gatefold Cover

This cover is in overall excellent condition with some minor shelf wear.  The edges have a minimal amount of rubbing and whilst the front cover is very clean it does have some 'spotting' here and there.  There are a couple of creases near the spine one of which is more pronounced and can be seen on the spine.  The spine itself is relatively clean but does have a little rubbing and a line running down it caused by the gatefold being opened.  This is unavoidable!  The inside is immaculate and as stated the poster is still 100% attached to the right hand side.  The back cover is very clean apart from one small print mark and some light 'greying' on the white areas.  The opening edge is in great condition and shows very little sign of handling wear.  There is a small 'Woolworth' sticker on the inside dated 21/11/78 - something of a collectors piece!  Of course being a first press it has the embossed 'Jazz' logo on the front.

Picture inner

The heavy duty card picture inner with the rounded corners is in near perfect condition and has no splits or obvious wear of any kind.  One of the best I have ever seen.

The labels

They are in fantastic condition with only a couple of tiny spindle lines on S1.  No marks or writing at all.
