It's barely a year old but Brooklyn rapper Billy Woods and Los Angeles record producer Kenny Segal's Hiding Places has already assured its place in Hip Hop history. The hugely acclaimed and - until this reissue - hard to find record from these American talents is a quiet gem with deeply pensive lyrics and mellow, lo-fi beats. Mothermary, Elucid, and Self Jupiter all guest and there are painfully honest revelations about fear, doubt and death that make it all the more emotionally involving. There is suffering and outrage aplenty here, but it makes for an album of real depth.
