This first pressing plays with wonderful quality and barely any 'background', the clarity and depth of the audio is superb on both sides.

The textured cover has only a little shelf wear and remains in excellent condition and the original Harvest inner has only light creasing and no side splits.

Visual grading

The vinyl has a very healthy glossy sheen and no scratches.  There are some faint hairlines and a couple of very minor marks but they have no affect on the stunning quality of the audio.  There is hardly any spindle wear and it is clear the record has not been overplayed.  The run out grooves have only light marking and the labels are super clean.

Play grading  

The title track 'Obscured By Clouds' has only a little static for the first few seconds, a common feature, and then plays with exceptional audio with no interference at all.  Not one single click or pop.  So the first 10 seconds are Ex- and the remainder is Mint- I am pleased to say, even the fade out is nigh on perfect.

'When You're In' quite simply plays 'as new' the clarity could not be better and you can hear each note so clearly.  It may only be a 'soundtrack' album but I've always been impressed by the production here.  This is Mint and again the fade out is sublime.

'Burning Bridges' is almost as good.  Almost.  The clarity and depth of the recording is superb from start to finish and the only 'background' is a couple of very light ticks on the fade out although perhaps should not be downgraded because of it.  Mint- it is though :-)

'The Gold It's In The...' plays with real strength and power and no interference and 'Wot's...Uh The Deal' is of the same standard also.  Very different tracks in their own right but they both grade as Mint such is the clarity on offer here.  There is not one click or pop and no static or dust ticks either.  Just pure 'high end' audio.

The quiet intro on 'Mudmen' plays beautifully and continues in much the same way.  There are a small number of light ticks just beyond the half way mark but they are very quiet and non-intrusive.  The rest of the track plays without fault.  Near Mint to end the side.

'Childhood's End' on S2 of course begins very quietly and yet the playback here is superb!  There is barely any 'background' and once the tempo increases the definition of the audio is like it was pressed only this year!  In saying that recent reissues do not have the same depth and warmth in my opinion!  To the end it plays with faultless precision and Mint- is infinitely deserved.

'Free Four' plays with 'high end' sonic quality from start to finish.  Mint in every sense of the word and as always every second was played so as to provide a comprehensive grading.

The super quiet intro on 'Stay' plays beautifully with no obvious 'background' and as Wright's vocal begins I heard only a couple of very faint ticks, barely audible really.  From then on it plays with wonderful clarity and only a couple of minor static ticks.  This is as close to perfect audio as is possible and I still think Mint- is deserved here.

'Absolutely Curtains' has so many quiet sections and yet the clarity is outstanding.  There is no static on the intro, just a super quiet hum in the background, and it then proceeds to play with exceptional clarity and definition.  Throughout the entire track there are only 3/4 inconsequential dust ticks and just that barely audible hum - a stunning Near Mint version to end the album with.  

In summary this very collectable first pressing plays to a fantastic standard and the only intrusion, if you can call it that, is at the beginning of S1.  However, when doesn't this intro have a little 'background' and it is only very minor here and lasts for only a few seconds!  The rest of the album is of such a high standard and rarely will you hear one as good as this.  The clarity is so impressive and there is not one single click or pops across the entire album.  yes there are some hairlines but they have no affect on the audio and this is a FINAL UPGRADE version for sure.

The Cover

The textured cover with the rounded corners is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  The edges and thin pinched spine do have some minor rubbing but the latter is still 100% legible.  The corners are very clean with barely any rubbing and the opening edge has only very minimal handling wear.  The front cover is near perfect with no marking and the back cover just has one small scuff at the bottom and a very small mark to the left.  Overall this is a very respectable first press cover.  

The Inner

The original Harvest inner has no side splits or tears and only a little age related fading around the edges.  There is very little creasing.

The Labels

The yellow/green Harvest labels are in superb condition with no marking or writing and barely any spindle wear.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
