Following on from a recent string of exceptional all-solo albums, jazz saxophonist Nat Birchall releases his first new studio recording, Spiritual Progressions, with his current working group, Unity Ensemble. The Manchester-based sax-pert is unmatched in his propagation of spiritual jazz in the UK, having remained within these small Isles yet distinctly pining after the bluesy beyond for many years. This album channels 'a very unified sound' in the words of the artist, contrasting to the intentional cacophony endemic to much US mystical jazz.
