Legendary American harpist Dorothy Ashby's debut The Jazz Harpist was a fine record, but then she followed up with what became an absolute classic that has endured through the ages. Afro Harping is a sonic bath, a soothing listen that enriches the soul and slows the heart. It's as lush as jazz gets with her own harp strumming at the centre of the record but back by a small yet tight and funky band who embellish each tune. It is unlikely anyone will ever do such things with the harp again and whenever this one gets reissued it always sells right out once more.
