Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with any spindle marks few and faint. The cover may have some shelfwear, but the record itself plays lovely with hardly anything to fault.

Brief Artist & Album Info: Gallagher’s first solo album after the split of Taste. By then a reluctant ‘guitar hero’ that always kept an unpretentious approach to his classic blues-based music. This album is a highly polished debut that just oozes quality. Still sadly missed, this great Irish artist displays his full array of talents here and this is regarded as one of his best ever works by many fans. An early pressing – the cover has some edge rubbing, light wear and creasing – the record itself is clean and plays extremely well (or I simply would not offer it). So not visually perfect, but if the music is the most important thing, as it always should be, this will still please many collectors.

Cover Grade and Format: VERY GOOD: a single format, no laminate with a matt, smooth finish. Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group and includes the Polydor date-coded (1972) inner sleeve.

Cover Cosmetic Improvements: None apparent, but possible.

Cover Front: An immensely difficult cover to find in anything like attractive condition, it clearly it prone to all forms of wear. In terms of rubbing, this front has very little and does still remain attractive. The bottom right corner has a ver small sticker residue dull, but no tear. There are creases, but these are only quite light as are any corner tip rubs. With most of the black ink and graphic intact, this is a fairly unusual sight.

Cover Back: Largely the same again minus the small sticker mark. Slightly more corner tip rubbing but the lack of penetrating ringwear to both sides is a significant plus.

Top Edge: Thin but mainly straight with very little wear up to the ends that have rubbed.

Bottom Edge: A little less straight with patchy, but only fairly light rubbing.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, still mainly sharp with little wear, any thickening or burring mild and light. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid but made quite thin and very vulnerable. This has moderate slightly rubbing with a fair degree of ink removed and at least 50 per cent of text eroded. This the main reason for the lower grading, Still solid fairly straight, but with white areas as many of these will have being honest.

Corners: Moderate tip and corner rubbing with good to find shape retained.

Cover Summary: Viewed within a protective cover (always supplied here) this still looks a nice cover. But with edge rubbing and some (mainly mild) creasing, not for the purist. I have seen several of these in appalling conditions and it is never an easy one, so this is still a very respectable example that will please some collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: only due to age toning and darkening. A Polydor inner with the early date-code of 0372 (March 1972) making this copy very early. Two crisp undamaged window circles and very clear polylining. Hardly any creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: VERY GOOD(++): and still a pleasing, clean visual copy. It regains a fine shine and very solidly pressed. It has mostly fine surface marks and odd minor scuff, but these purely superficial and non-sounding, there are no penetrating scratches. Like the cover, not for the visual purist, but it will please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This record plays impressively with very little to fault and was a pleasure to hear again. Yes it has light surface marks, but ignored and the sound strong, clear and distortion-free. Any surface sounds minimal and no pops or significant clicks noted. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this vintage Gallagher classic, one of finest ever albums for sure. If sound over perfect looks is paramount, well this early-pressed record delivers.

Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
