This auction is for an original pressing of the Beatles' 1965 LP 'Rubber Soul'.

When this LP was originally released it featured -1/-1 matrix endings and is known today as the 'loud cut' presses. Those with a good ear have said that these initial presses have an unbalanced mix with harsher, sharper vocals (making them sound aggressive) and a muddier bass. It was soon decided to stop production so that the album could be remixed and new mother plates made up. These standard presses, with the matrix endings -4/-4, are the most common presses out there.

However, during the transition, a few copies were mismatched with both standard and loud cut matrixes. Today these are quite hard to find!

The cover is showing your usual wear and tear (remember, this record is 49 years old!) but, overall, is holding up okay. The front has a nice, full colour and has a light disc impression along with some laminate creases around the sides and corners. The top right corner seems to have been creased over and the corners have rounded a little. Top seam is holding tight with no wear, tear or splitting. There are a couple of little bits of wear in the bottom seams where the laminate has creased but is holding tight with no splits. The spine has one or two little laminate creases in it, but is whole, unworn and unsplit with fully legible text. The back cover has yellowed a little but nothing drastic. There's 'FAB' written next to the bottom photo of Ringo and 'Judiths' (Thanks, Judith) at the top. The corners have creases in them and there's a few little laminate creases in the overflaps, but these are holding tightly. Overall, nice sleeve with your average wear and tear, but nothing bad or distracting.   Inner Sleeve: VG+
The original tissue paper Emitex inner is included. It's yellowed a little and has some creases but hasn't split and the inner bag is still tightly in place.   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG

The playing surface has a nice shine to it and has a fair amount of light, faint scuffing. There are one or two slightly heavier looking scuffs but these look superficial. There's one notable mark on side 1 - it looks like a light scratch in the opener that travels into a quarter into track 1. I can feel it if I run my fingernail lightly over it.

The labels are clean, crisp and clear with bright text. There's some light, faint spindlewear and a little whitening around the centerhole but, overall, are looking nice!.
