Deep Purple
'In Rock'
Purple, UK, 1970
SHVL 777
THERE IS very little that I can say to add to the innumerable accolades that have been handed to this album since its release in 1970. Suffice to say that practically everything that has been said in praise of this hard rock monster is utterly correct and deserved. Even now, 36 years after the fact, this album still has the power to amaze and stir up the sort of emotions that few others have ever managed to achieve.
Practically every track on this album is a bonafide period hard rock classic. Lead off track 'Speed King' sets the scene - a pulsating explosion of violent guitar/keyboard interplay and utterly unrelenting rhythm kicking the song into hyper realistic overdrive. Of course, the album highlight is universally agreed as 'Child In Time', a track so steeped in atmosphere that you half expect to see wafts of dry ice sweeping majestically out of the speakers closely followed by a spooky apparition - something like the Angel Of Mons hovering serinely over the sofa.
If its early seventies hard rock you love then this has to be the corner stone of any vinyl album collection. Great copy!
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
