For auction is the JOHNNY GRIFFIN SEXTET's self-titled record, on Riverside RLP 12-264, MONO, 1958. Featuring Wilbur Ware, Philly Jo Jones, Donald Byrd, Pepper Adams, and Kenny Drew. How's that for a "super group"?

SOUND:

It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. The sound is, overall, great! Crisp and clean. The only flaw I want to note is occasional static, with a random "pop" here and there. These are not so loud or frequent that they detract from this great music. I mention it for completeness when describing the listening experience of this rare record. Not bad at all, immeasurably enjoyable!

VINYL:

Visually, the vinyl is VG+, maybe better! I can't see anything worth mentioning past superficial smudges, maybe a light scuff or two. The record has deep grooves both sides, is on the blue "mike and reel" label. Reads "Bill Grauer Productions INC. New York City" on label. Runouts are etched: "RLP-12-264-A/B"

COVER:

The cover is VG+ and maybe better. The edges are all solid and straight with little-to-no wear. The corners are slightly soft/rounded. The front is laminated and retains its sheen well. It has some minor routine wear. The back is still pretty white, despite routine aging and a some modest ring-wear. Front and back are clean and unmarked. Very nice cover!

The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.

A great record, in very good condition. No reserve, bidding starts at $50.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.

If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction. I'm not a collector, nor an audiophile, but I think they are desirable if you're into this kind of material.  Click "see other items" and thanks for looking!
