For auction is "ELVIN JONES & CO," "Elvin!" on Riverside RLP 409, MONO, DG, 1962, White Promo Label. With Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Hank Jones, and Art Davis.

SOUND: NM

It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. The playback is outstanding! Clean, clear, brilliant!. For completeness, here were about 5 or 6 random, soft tics on either side, that is all. Otherwise, near-perfect!

VINYL: NM

It appears to me the record might never have been played. It was snug in a crisp, folded-at-the-corner, original sleeve. The vinyl is pristine. The labels are white "mike-and-reel" promotional issue. The deep-grooved labels are beautifully clean and unmarked. There is, however, a bit of black showing through in the deep grooves on side B. My hypothesis is that these were caused at the time of pressing. Also, the side A label is a bit cracked around the spindle hole. Again, my sense is this was caused at the pressing plant. There is no sign of a spindle mark either side. I'm only being so detailed because this record is so close to a true "mint" grade.

JACKET: VG+ or better

Overall, a very nice jacket with only minimal, routine wear. The edges and spine are solid, with only a touch of wear towards the corners. The corners themselves show a little bit of fraying/softening, but still fairly nice. Front and back covers are beautiful. Held at an angle under light, you can see a little bit of ring-wear on the front; also a slight 2-inch wrinkle under Elvin's ear. The back is very clean, with a strip of yellowing along the back spine. There is a "promo" stamp on the back top.

The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.

This is one of the finest condition combinations (jacket + vinyl) I've offered. No reserve, bidding starts at $50.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.

If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction. I'm not a collector, nor an audiophile, but I think they are desirable if you're into this kind of material.  Click "see other items" and thanks for looking!
