Cymande - Promised Heights
Janus Records JXS-7004 1974

Super rare original release of this funk LP.

Cover is a gatefold and it is pretty clean with no notch cuts, holes, or rips. The top edge and corners show a little wear but no seam splits. There is slight ring wear but not too noticeable in person. Solid, readable spine.

Vinyl looks and plays fantastic. I believe this is the official first pressing by Columbia Records Terre Haute pressing plant if you are into that. Vinyl has 4-5 slight scuffs but not scratches, and nothing that makes noise or affects play. Super clean copy of this record. Listen to the video.

Musically, the album is loaded with funky songs, hard drums, and samples galore. "Brothers on the Slide" is still one of the funkiest songs ever created.

I am very picky with my grading and I really try to price the records so we both feel satisfied. If you feel I missed the mark on the grading of a record you purchased, please reach out to me. I am selling a very large personal collection and look over a ton of vinyl everyday.

Here are my standards for grading records:

Near Mint (NM)

This is almost a perfect, brand new record that has is most likely still sealed, never been played, and the vinyl will play perfectly. The cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits, cut-out holes, or other defects. The same goes for inserts, posters, lyric sheets, sleeves, etc. I don't think I have ever graded a record as NM because I don't sell new vinyl.

Excellent (EX)
This record will show some signs that it has been played but taken care of, protected, and correctly stored by previous owners. Defects should be cosmetic and not affect the playback. Record surfaces may show signs of wear, slight scuffs, or very light scratches, but these shouldn't distract from or affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are also OK. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. Spindle marks may be present. Picture sleeves and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, slightly turned-up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear, and may be marred by a promo hole, cut-out hole, notch cut, indentation, or cut corner. In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint.

Very Good Plus (VG+)  This record is still high quality in my collection. You may hear slight surface noise, subtle pops, and ticks when playing, but these sounds should only add to the warm analog feeling and not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear may be noticeable, along with scuffs, and light scratches, but they shouldn't cause skips during playback. The LP label may be marred by writing, marks, or stickers. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. But I think these just add to overall mystique of the record's history.
