COLUMBIA RECORDS 10" 78 RPM E2940 1909 SUPER RARE!!
This record was released to "benefit the German and Austrian Red Cross." (translated from label). The label image is of a Red Cross Nurse aiding a German soldier who's wearing an Iron Cross, while a German stretcher bearer carries a wounded soldier into an infirmary tent.
Both sides are the Brooklyner Sangerbund (a German Male Chorus founded in Brooklyn, NY) a capella, under the direction of F. Albecke.
44128: "DAS STILLE THAL" (The Silent Valley) - German Folk Song
44130: "ABENDSTANDCHEN" (Literal translation: Evening Serenade) - Johannes Brahms
Record is scuffed and has a few light scratches, mostly inaudible, but I heard a few light ticks. Surface noise is normal. Sleeve, though Columbia, is probably not original, but from a 1920's release.
NOTE: I DONT GRADE LABELS -- see pictures for that information. I use the eBay record grading system when listing 78's, which is mostly based on visual observation of the wax, shellac, or vinyl. KEEP IN MIND THAT ALMOST ALL OLD 78's HAVE SURFACE NOISE WHEN PLAYED ON MODERN EQUIPEMENT (except the extremely well-made records). It's only distracting surface noise, as well as ticks, pops, clicks or jumps, that may affect grading.
ALL THE RECORDS I LIST COME FROM ONE COLLECTION, THAT OF JAMES M. KENNEY OF NEW WINDSOR, MARYLAND. HE WAS ONE OF THE EAST COAST'S LARGEST AUDIO AND ELECTRONICS COLLECTORS.
