See below for description of the recording. As stated below, there were only 500 pressings of the "Oblivion Train" 7". While going through product, we noticed that 20 were pressed on transparent green wax, apparently a mistake at the pressing plant. The photo shows the transparent offset with the original green opaque pressing.
Most collectors know that the Misfits' "Legacy of Brutality" original pressings have 16 pressed on pink vinyl. Needless to say, they are worth a small fortune if you can find one for sale.
So these 20 are for the "collector" of rare vinyl. Three are already spoken for.
"MENTORS
“Oblivion Train” b/w “Cornshucker” (picture sleeve)
The Mentors are a “shock rock” band, or as the term has been coined, the founders of “rape rock”. With the likes of the late, great Frank Zappa, the Mentors are largely responsible for the “Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics” label we’ve all become so accustomed.
The Mentors formed in 1976 in Seattle, and then moved to Los Angeles in 1979. The “Oblivion Train” session was recorded in Steve Broy’s (Dr. Heathen Scumbag) basement in Seattle, WA, in 1977, long before the band was ever signed in Los Angeles. These two chosen tracks have never been heard by the public and were mastered directly from the original analog tapes. The final product (limited to 500) was pressed on green opaque vinyl.
This is the beginning of the Mentors. The sound is primitive. The band is tight and cohesive. Drummer/singer El Duce (RIP) shines."
