We are proud to be able to offer vinyl treasures from one of the UK’s most important soundmen, the truly legendary Duke Vin. This is the 5th auction.
Having been a selector on Tom the Great Sebastian in Jamaica, Duke Vin moved to London in the mid-50s and is recognised as the first to build a Jamaican sound in the UK, the wonderfully titled Duke Vin the Tickler.
In 1958 Duke Vin played the UK’s first sound clash and through the 60s and 70s was a regular at the most happening clubs, including The Flamingo, The Roaring Twenties and The Marquee.
Duke Vin's influence on the UK’s music scene cannot be over-stated and it is an honour to offer some records from his incredible collection.
***Please
note that in the style of the original soundmen, Duke Vin scratched out
titles, artist names and record labels on many of his records to
conceal their identity. Some bear his Duke Vin stamp, and other stickers
and magazine cutouts.***
