CARL ERDMANN "BIZARROPHYTES" (U.S.PRIVATE) 1980 SEALED ORIGINAL
The few places choosing to write about this ultra-obscure album usually tout the psychedelia and sitar aspects of it, inevitably leading some (like me) to believe this is some late-era lost classic along the lines of The Electronic Hole or Bobb Trimble.
Don't be fooled, however; the material on here, while still considerably psychedelic and sitar-affected, is more spacey and meditative than it is singer-songwriter.
Entirely instrumental and mostly acoustic, Carl Erdmann plays nice, mellow guitar-driven pieces with much influence from the American Primitive guitar school of folk. I'm a big fan of American Primitivism, and this album tends to drift into psychedelia a bit too much to be purely considered a part of the scene, but beneath all the electronics and effects it's there.
