In the late 1980s, when vinyl seemed to be on its last legs, CD manufacturer Ryko announced the introduction of records under the Ryko Analogue imprint.  The short-lived label offered releases by Frank Zappa and David Bowie, among others, and featured high quality pressings on clear vinyl.

Sound + Vision was one of the first vinyl releases by Ryko, and it was a lavishly packaged six LP set, containing three gatefold covers, six records pressed on colored vinyl, and a clear plastic cover.  The set consisted not of hits, but mostly of rarities, outtakes, live tracks, and demos, and quite a lot of them, at that; the set includes 50 songs.  Critics and the public gushed over the set, which was also available on CD, and particularly praised the sound quality.

Unfortunately, Ryko’s vinyl days didn’t last long and all of their LPs shortly went out of print.  At the time of the album’s release, many stores had already stopped selling records, and Ryko had a hard time finding retail outlets for their vinyl.
