Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have accumulated over a period of more than 45 years or more! This is the earliest possible 1st UK Pressing of Status quo's"Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon " album released in 1970 very scarce and collectable to find in this tip top condition! The audio quality is absolutely stunning through out this album , in fact I dought that you will find a better sounding vinyl. Purchased from new in 1970 in a record shop called Art Nash in Penge London. I initially only ever played this vinyl a few times and then recorded it to tape. The vinyl has always been separated from the sleeve for protection. The vinyl looks and sounds like it has barely ever been played in my opinion.  The audio is graded as near mint cristal clear and very, very vibrant through out. There are no needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud annoying constant clicks or pops on this vinyl. The original 1st issue un- laminated Garrod & Lofthouse  printed cover is also in exceptional tip top condition being stored in a case with the vinyl removed and separated from the cover for protection, . This is how I have always stored my records! Cover is also graded at least excellent in my opinion! A very collectable and sought after Blues Rock album especially in this condition! One of my favourite Status Quo albums!

Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon is the third album by English rock band Status Quo.

It was the first album by the band to leave behind their early psychedelic sound and begin experimenting with the hard rock style which remains their signature sound, as well as the last album to feature keyboardist Roy Lynes.

The new album was released in August 1970, and failed to chart.

The band began experimenting with the new sound when they hired Australian singer-songwriter Carl Groszmann to write a song for them.

The song became 'Down the Dustpipe', which was released as a non-album single in March 1970, with the Rossi/Parfitt song 'Face Without a Soul' from the band's previous album Spare Parts as its b-side.

In Francis Rossi's words, “it was the first record to feature our soon-to-be trademark boogie shuffle”. It became one of the most popular numbers in their live set.

The single took the media by surprise as it was so different in sound from their previous work. Radio 1 presenter Tony Blackburn dismissed it on air the first time he played it with the comment, "Down the dustbin for this one."[citation needed] Nevertheless, it was an instant hit, reaching #12 in the UK singles chart and remaining in the top-50 for a solid 17-weeks.

October 1970 saw the release of yet another non-album single, this time a Rossi/Young composition - 'In My Chair', with the non-album b-side 'Gerdundula' (written while in Germany by Rossi and Young under the pseudonyms of Manston and James, with a title reportedly inspired by their German friends Gerd and Ula) - and the band had another hit, with the single reaching #21, just missing the top-20. 'Gerdundula' would later be re-recorded by the band for their next album, Dog of Two Head.

While on tour the same year, organist Roy Lynes fell in love, claiming that he could see how serious the other band members were about fame and glory, and that he just wanted to settle down to a life with his newfound love.

According to the group's producer, John Schroeder, who wrote the booklet notes for the 3-CD compilation The Early Years, Lynes was "the quietest member of the group" and "somehow always seemed to be the odd one out". Rick Parfitt has said Lynes was "a bit laid back, the Open University type who liked tinkering and finding out about things", and Francis Rossi remarked that, when Lynes showed up at a gig they were playing in New Zealand about ten years later to say hello, "he seemed a much happier bloke".

Track Listing:
1 "Spinning Wheel Blues" (Rossi/Young) - 3:21 (listed as "Spinning Wheel" on the original LP)
2 "Daughter" (Lancaster) - 3:01
3 "Everything" (Francis Rossi/Parfitt) - 2:36

The Vinyl

This is the original thicker , heavier chunky slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest original pressings! (Later press are much more flimsier and less robust)!

The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps. The vinyl has retained its original sheen from new in my opinion on initial inspection this looks like it has obviously not been played that much and in my opinion, On close inspection any marks that could possibly be seen would be very light sleeve removal/scuffs only but importantly no audio sounding marks or needle marks that would cause any loud clicks or pops that I heard at all!

The audio quality

I have played this track for track at very loud volume prior to listing at very loud volume two times! From the moment that the needle hits the playing surface , it is obvious that this vinyl not only visually but audibly has only had very very minimal play only! In fact I have owned this album from new and initially only played this when purchased and recorded it to tape, subsecuently this has been stored in a case since then. The audio is stunning cristal clear and vibrant, very bright and clear throughout without any signs of distortion at all and plays with a lovely deep bassey feel only found like this on earliest pressings!  I would grade the audio very near as mint in my opinion! (I don't think that you will find better very rich and vibrant through out)

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for isolated static/ticks only, and not consistent through out the audio. Please remember that this is a genuine 45 year old record that would have originally been played on a 45 year old system.

The Labels

These are the original 1st UK issued Pye labels (see photos)   The labels are rich in colour and are very clean , all text is fully readable. It is obvious to me that this vinyl has only had barely been played in my opinion. Spidering can be seen when angled to the light.  The spindle hole is very tight on the spindle , there is little if no spindle ware and of course is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve

This is the original poly lined paper record sleeve no splits or tares, Light creasing/yellowing with age only "Made In England"

The Cover

This Is The Original 1st UK issue Un- laminated, Garrod & Lofthose printed printed cover in absolutely stunning condition through out, concidering this is 45 years old! Clean and very straight in appearance. No splits or tares.  All text is readable! There is No real nasty rubbing/storage wear Very, very rare! no real nasty creases to report, any ther are, you have to look to notice. (very minor corner bumping that agin only really noticed if looked for in my opinion. Crease lines at the edges and near the spine to mention. Any indents or marks on this cover you have to look to notice. The cover has always been seperated from the vinyl and sleeve since purchased from new! The rear is also very clean indeed! The spine is square Unbeleivably rare like this! Graded at  least excellent in my opinion!
