"DOGS"  (Pete Townshend, 1968)

The first time we met you were a kennel maid,
You gave me a tip, I got me forecast paid,
You were holding the greyhound in trap number one,
Your white coat was shining in the afternoon sun.

Now we're both together,
We're never gonna break apart, no, no,
'Cause we're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.

"I'll have ten shillings to win on Camira Flash, young man,"
"What dog's that?"
"It's the Duke's dog, innit!"

There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a greyhound at either knee.

We go to the dog track on Saturday night,
We put all our money on a dog that we like,
A kiss and a cuddle, a hot meat pie,
Two dollar tickets and a starry sky.

There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
There was nothing in my life bigger than beer,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
'Ceptin' you, little darling,
We're a happy couple you and me,
With a baby on either knee.

Yes it's you little darling,
Yes it's you little darling,
Now it's you little darling,
Now it's you.

"Eh, where's me wage packet?
Ah, I'll put twenty-five knicker please on Yellow Printer.
Oh, I hope the wife don't find out.
Yes, it's sure to win, isn't it.
Yes, I know, it's a good dog, I saw it run at White City.
Just last week, broke the record, Yellow Printer.
Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks."
THE WHO: "Dogs"/ "Call Me Lightning" 45 UK FIRST  PRESSING, 14th JUNE,1968 IN MONO.
ISSUED WITH A PUSH-OUT CENTRE, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SOLID CENTRE OR WITHOUT A CENTRE VERSION.
"Dogs"/ "Call Me Lightning" SOLD SLOWLY AND STRUGGLED TO REACH No.25 IN THE UK, THE DURATION WAS
ONLY A FEW WEEKS AND I DOUBT VERY MUCH IF ANY SOLID CENTRE SINGLES WERE MADE.

ORIGINAL 1968 SLEEVE, WHICH WAS IN REALITY AN UNPRINTED POLYDOR SLEEVE, PLAIN WHITE WITH A STRAIGHT
TOP OPENING, WELL,SLOPING REALLY.  Track Records NEVER HAD A CUSTOM SLEEVE IN THE 60's or THE 70's,
THE COLOURS VARIED FROM WHITE, BLACK EVEN A NEAR PURPLE COLOUR LATER IN THE 1970's, BUT ALWAYS
PLAIN AND UNPRINTED.  THE LACK OF CONSTANT HANDLING MEANS VIRTUALLY UNWORN,JUST THE  USUAL
RECORD IMPRESSION AND A FEW RELATED CREASES BUT NO TEARS OR SPLITS.  FOR A 1968 WHITE SLEEVE
EVEN AGEING IS AT AN ABSOLUTE MINIMAL, IN UNUSED EXCELLENT++++ /  NEAR MINT CONDITION.

THE RECORD IS LITERALLY LIKE BRAND NEW, A STUNNING LOOKING ULTRA GLOSSY RECORD WITH THE APPEARANCE
AND SOUND OF JUST PRESSED VINYL.  I NEVER EXAGGERATE RECORD CONDITION'S, RARITY MAKES NO DIFFERENCE
AND THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

Pete Townshend has written some incredible lyrics but none of them finished with anything as bizarre as found on the 1968 "Dogs"
single;
Nice dog, yes, lovely form, lovely buttocks.".
The Who grew up near London's White City, famous for where Mods gathered, it was also famous for a greyhound racing stadium,
the above lyrics were inspired by betting on greyhound racing at 'White City.'  Being Pete, he turned the song into a story about
a love affair that started with with a kennel maid who gave him a tip for a winner.  A very funny song that was not appreciated
in 1968, shame because it was a superb Who single and who else could write lyrics like this?
We go to the dog track on Saturday night,
We put all our money on a dog that we like,
A kiss and a cuddle, a hot meat pie,
Two dollar tickets and a starry sky.
They get married and the couple have two babies, the last verse finds him putting his whole week's wages on a dog, but we never
found out if the dog won. Supposedly written for the Small Faces and particularly Ronnie Lane, the Who and the Small Faces toured
Australia in 1968, not exactly given the extrovert characters involved.  They even stayed at the same hotel, just Keith Moon and
Steve Marriott was a recipe for trouble, the contents of their room was thrown out the window and armed police arrived to restore
order.  "Dogs" was more like a track from the Small Faces current album in 1968,  "Ogdens Nut Gone Flake,"something very English
and perhaps the Kinks are also an example of late 1960's psychedelic music... with down to earth realism.   As a rare unplayed
first pressing, I will not be playing the record, plus there is substantial vinyl shavings around and in the spindle hole, trying
to  describe a record without playing it is always difficult.    Turn the record over and you find the Who rocking really hard on
with the superb "Call Me Lightning," almost a return to the "My Generation" album with their finest r&b.  It seems like a decade
had  past since the Who's debut LP in 1965, but only three years separated the 1968 "Dogs" from their Brusnwick label records.

In June, 1968, "Dogs" peaked at No.25 in the UK charts, so not a massive seller, but after 49 years this is most certainly a very
rare record in unplayed, Mint condition, the last copy I listed on ebay was in 2002!  For me that makes "Dogs" a really rare record!
The pristine condition labels are the textured, matt black of the late 1960's Track variety, definitely no spindle contact traces
or even hint of ever being on a turntable and as hard as I looked.  I have to include factory handling with every true Mint record
I offer on ebay, back in out days of trading at record fairs, my customers could just look for themselves, the records have not
changed since the 60's and a Mint record.....is a Mint record.  So any handling is near invisible and feather light. I know how
superbly mastered and pressed this single was and it will remain in the ultimate condition.

    R & M RECORDS.

My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller.  Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;

EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY
FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE
AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL
INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE
OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL.  EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A RECORD
WHEN A CUSTOMER RECEIVES EITHER A SEALED OR AN UNPLAYED RECORD.

We take 100% responsibility after an item has been posted and offer our fullest support in the event of any problems.
"There Are No Problems, Only Solutions" (John Lennon)
MY DESCRIPTIONS WILL ALWAYS BE 100% HONEST AND TOTALLY ACCURATE ON ALL GRADINGS
FROM 'V.G.' ( VERY GOOD), TO THE ULTIMATE 'MINT' CONDITION.

WEIGH A LITTLE EXTRA.

UNDER PAYPAL & EBAY'S GUIDELINES, ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA A FULLY INSURED TRACKABLE
SERVICE.

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged.  Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.  A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?

For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.

IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA 'INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR.'
