Amazing !!! An unbelievable piece: What we have here is an unheard-of TEST PRESSING of this classic Sarah Vaughan torch ballad session!. While many test pressings often have alternate or demo- versions of known, later released songs, and while it is possible that this particular test pressing contains demo or alternate versions of some of the tracks, please don’t take our word that it does: unfortunately, we are not familiar with the entire album (we know only a few songs) and we regret  we cannot provide any competent information on how different this TEST PRESSING may be from the official release. Please contact us if you have any questions. The generic Abbey pressing plant white test pressing label is (almost) entirely blank and without any details whatsoever, except for the  handrwritten artists' names, catalog number and machine-stamped monaural format

 

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TEST PRESSING APPARENTLY NEVER HAD A CUSTOM COVER;  THE ALBUM WILL BE SHIPPED IN A PLAIN, GENERIC [WHITE] CARDBOARD COVER. TEST PRESSINGS ARE RARELY – IF EVER – FOUND IN CUSTOM (STOCK) COVERS.

The emphasis is on ballads on this Roulette LP, with the great singer Sarah Vaughan backed by a string section arranged and conducted by her regular pianist Jimmy Jones (although on this set Ronnell Bright actually does the piano playing). Trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison contributes some soft, melodic trumpet but the focus is very much on the singer during such numbers as "The More I See You," "Star Eyes," "My Ideal," and "Crazy He Calls Me."

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, JUST A NOTCH BELOW NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

 

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

 

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

 

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
