Friday Afternoons, a collection of twelve songs for children's voices, was composed in 1934 and dedicated to the composer's brother R.H.M. Britten and the boys of Clive House, Prestatyn. Five of the songs on this record are from Friday Afternoon; of the others The Birds was written in 1929 and revised in 1934. Corpus Christi Carol is an arrangement of the fifth variation from A Boy was Born (1933), which the composer made specially for John Hahessy.
