The pinnacle Dylan album to which his large cult following mushroomed into masses ... filled with timeless classics, besides the title track, tunes like "Like A Rolling Stone", "Desolation Row" and "Ballad Of A Thin Man" set the music world on a roll....

Highway 61 Revisited, was Dylan's first all-electric album. Featuring contributions from musicians Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, and others, it contained many songs which would quickly become concert staples and among Dylan's best-loved works, the most memorable of them being the single "Like A Rolling Stone". Built on a framework of reworked and bastardized blues rhythms, highlighted by organ, piano and Bloomfield's guitar, and featuring Dylan's most abstract lyrics yet, the music was clearly patched together from various traditional American roots forms, but injected with a new life and energy which made it into something new, strange and indisputeably unique. The album as a whole is very bluesy and spiteful. This time in Bob Dylan's life is often described as his "angry young man" period.
It often appears on 'Greatest Albums' lists, and placed at number four on the Rolling Stone Magazine's list.

To this day, Highway 61 is generally considered one of Dylan's best ever albums.

Like a Rolling Stone
Like a Rolling Stone is legendary. It was put as the best song ever by Rolling Stone Magazine. Al Kooper played organ on this and played an eighth note behind the rest of the band, but that makes the song awesome. It is the epitome of Dylan's spitefulness at the time (along with Positively 4th Street).

Tombstone Blues
This song is very good. The sound is like a train is coming through your speakers, with a nice chug-chug rhythm. What is really impressive is the drummer keeping this beat for six minutes! Mike Bloomfield plays great lead guitar on her, and Dylan's lyrics are great as always: stop all your whining/swallow your pride/you will not die/it's not poison.

It Takes A Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry
This is more of a laid-back blues song. It is very soothing, but at the same time, will get your foot tapping. It features nice harmonica playing by Bob. Not much to say here, just about everyone likes this song. It is a very solid song, but not the best.

From a Buick 6
From a Buick 6 is more of a hard-edged blues song. It is based off of a twelve-bar blues with a nice bass riff that stands out prominently in the track. Good song with playful Dylan singing, nice organ, cool bass and a harmonica/guitar solo mix.

Ballad of a Thin Man
Bob Dylan plays piano and sings. The lyrics are awesome; they are about people who ask too many questions. The rest of the band fills out the sound nicely and it creates a very interesting atmosphere. Dylan sings "something is happening here and you don't know what it is/do you, Mr. Jones?" like he is laughing at the person. Ace.

Queen Jane Approximately
This is a very good song. Dylan sounds condescending and desperate and compassionate at the same time. It is more sort of folky compared to the rest of the album, which is very bluesy. For anyone that might care, this song is about Lady Jane Grey, the uncrowned queen of England for nine days.

Highway 61 Revisited
This song has a lot of character driven lyrics, and seem to denounce a lot of popular figures. It opens with a police siren. This song is easy to get into. It is another blues song with the full band and has a sort of fun-jam feel.

Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues
This song is fantastic. The sound is reminiscent of Queen Jane Approximately. It is about someone who wakes up and finds himself in Mexico among drinking, gambling and whores. He encounters shady women along the way to drinking and drugging himself depression. In the end, though, he finds the will to give it all up and head to New York, so it's cool. There are two pianos playing in this song, which creates a cool sound.

Desolation Row
This song is perfect in just about every way. First of all, it should be said that this is the only acoustic song off of Highway. The song is over 11 minutes long. The lyrics paint great scenery and feature characters such as Casanova, Einstein disguised as Robin Hood, Cinderella, and many, many more. You will never want it to end. During the last harmonica solo, you will be awaiting a final verse that doesn't exist. The only solution is to listen to it again. Desolation Row never gets old. It features two acoustic guitars, and the lead is superb.
