The Matadors were a Czech band who had hits in Germany and flourished during the 1968 anti communist uprising in Czechoslovakia.
These cats deliver a WILD Freak-beat psych sound like a cross between The Pretty Things, early Pink Floyd and Vanilla Fudge.
The album is strong throughout and highlights such monsters as the garage-punk snarl of "Get Down From The Tree"(which was wisely selected to the Nuggets" garage classics compilation) and the long psychedelic freak-beat acid-jam “Extraction."

The MATADORS displayed first rate musicians including Radim Hladik, a young talented classically trained musician and future national guitar hero.
The Matadors album is an underestimated surprise of sorts; accessible English vocals providing two full sides of worthy selections, entertaining anytime the platter is selected. Decidedly on par with most any of the "in" underground bands from the late '60s.... The MATADORS were Otto Bezloja (bass guitar, leader), Radim Hladík (lead guitar), Jan "Farmer" Obermayer (organ), Miroslav "Tony Black" Schwarz (drums) & Viktor Sodoma jr. (vocals.)
The MATADORS were too good to last, and didn't. Their terrific guitarist universal in his group, "Blue Effect" creatively did last.

The cover: rated: "EX" (excellent) extremely fragile '68 cover, very thin yet still colors full of life and strong! Apparently for support the original owner reinforced the spine with transparent tape, though did not need having to split seams (owner concerned with preserving is guess) Can be removed if necessary,request.) There are the old style "flap-back" 60's seams, only previous lightest handling evident (keeper copy, probably not better) there are no delete marks, no split seams, and no writing ...again, strong colors and rare from 1968
The vinyl: Rated: "EX" (excellent) really only about three fingernail type scuff lines which are top surface cosmetic, does not affect the clean audio playback which is most important! both Supraphone labels are clean
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
