Gojira is a French metal band from Bayonne. Formed in 1996, the band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass. Since their first studio album, Gojira has had no changes in lineup, written five studio albums and produced three live DVDs. They are known for their environmentally-themed lyrics and have gone from “utmost obscurity” to being mentioned regularly “amongst the genre’s leading new millennium upstarts”, according to Allmusic.

 

L’Enfant Sauvage (French, “The Wild Child”) is the fifth album by the French metal band Gojira. It was released 26 June 2012 via Roadrunner Records.

 

Frontman, guitarist and songwriter Joe Duplantier talks about the meaning of the album by saying, “When you become a musician, you don’t have a boss telling you what to do so you have to be very responsible.” He goes on to say “With freedom comes responsibility, so I’m asking myself, ‘What is freedom? What does it mean to me?’ L’Enfant Sauvage reflects on that. There’s no answer though. There’s just life and questions.”

 

Gojira was going to tour with Lamb of God and Dethklok, but because of Randy Blythe’s arrest in the Czech Republic, the tour was cancelled. Gojira subsequently announced a headline tour of their own, which began in January 2013 with support from The Devin Townsend Project and The Atlas Moth.
