Leonard Cohen : Songs From A Room A2/B5

This album is from the same collection that I purchased 4/5 months ago and has also been incredibly well preserved down the years.  The owner certainly knew how to look after his records and this one is no exception!  There is no need to describe each track in detail but as always I have listened to every one in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading and will state any imperfections even if minor.

This second pressing plays to a wonderful standard with only one light click on S1.  The clarity and definition of the audio is so impressive and there is barely any static and the vast majority is of Mint standard for sure.  The vinyl is also visually in fantastic condition, never seen better!  The cover is also in excellent condition with only minimal wear and the original CBS inner has only some creasing in one corner.  

As this is such an early pressing it has the 'walking eye' in the centre of the orange CBS labels.

Visual grading

This is another vinyl in lovely condition with a stunning glossy sheen and no scratches.  There is just one very small mark on S2 but it is very faint and has no affect on the audio.  It is very difficult to find!  There is some spindle wear but not an excessive amount but despite that I cannot find any obvious hairlines at all.  The run out grooves and labels are also very clean.

Play grading
The classic 'Bird On The Wire' plays with amazing clarity from the first note to the last.  In essence it is 'as new' with no intrusion at all.  Another example of a beautifully preserved record.  There is no underlying static which is a rarity and a Mint grade is more than deserved here.  It continues in the same precise way and I cannot adequately put into words just how 'crystal clear' the audio is.  An example of this is the very quiet intro on 'The Partisan' which plays perfectly.  The 'French' section on this lovely track is pure Mint audio in every way.  In fact the only negative is one light click during this track but aside from that S1 plays with such precision you would think it was pressed only yesterday.  'Seems Song Long Ago, Nancy' has just a minimal touch of light static in a couple of sections but it is so quiet and totally non-intrusive.  It still grades as Near Mint and ends the side with wonderful clarity and depth.
'The Old Revolution' has only a minor hint of barely audible static on the intro and then plays with great precision for the remainder.  A couple of light static ticks but there are no clicks or pops.  I would say Near Mint is about right.  'The Butcher' plays with exceptional clarity with only a handful of light static ticks - not clicks!  They take nothing away from the stunning 'listening experience' - Near Mint just to be safe!  The remaining tracks do not disappoint and again play with a clarity that you rarely find.  There is barely any static and only a couple of minor static ticks.  We all know how sparse and quiet Cohen's songs are which makes the audio all the more impressive.  A stunning album on many levels.
The Cover & Inner

The cover is in excellent condition with very little shelf wear.  The edges and spine are in perfect condition, there is barely any corner wear and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  The front cover is very clean when you consider how white it is and has only a couple of mega small faint marks, a touch of light ringwear and one small indent near the bottom edge.  The back cover is pristine with no marking at all.  The original picture inner is in excellent order with no side splits, tears or marking just some creasing in one corner.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

The record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
