Hawkwind : Roadhawks A-3U / B-2U 1st Press + Poster 1976

This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with NO interference.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive and you would not be disappointed if you had just bought this record brand new!  It qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing and I cannot overstate just how well it plays.  The vinyl has been played as there is some spindle wear the but the surface itself is in lovely condition.  The sonic quality is just incredible!

The gatefold has been so well preserved and has only very minimal wear and the original poster is also in excellent condition.  There is no sticker but it was included with every copy.  The original inner sleeve has some light wear, one small side split.

This album has the A3U/B2U matrix and has 'Manufactured In England.  A Product of Liberty-United Artists Records...' around the rim of the label.  'Paranoia (Excerpt)' is listed inside the gatefold.  It is an early version with just a single stamper on each side.

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition with a very strong glossy sheen and no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can only see a small number of faint hairlines.  The UAR labels are unmarked apart from a little spindle wear on S1 and some more on S2.

Play grading

The acoustic intro on 'Hurry On Sundown' plays with sublime clarity and the opening vocal is 'as new' also.  It continues to play in the same exact way with crystal clear audio throughout.  It is a Mint start to the album.

The segue into 'Paranoia' is perfect and the intro has only a couple of quiet statics at the start.  From then on it plays with incredible depth and the clarity is nigh on perfect.  I only noticed a couple of light statics.  The sonic quality is just incredible and Mint- is fair here.

The live version of 'You Shouldn't Do That' coupled with the unlisted 'Seeing It As You Really Are' plays to the same high end standard with a power and depth that is just off the chart!  They both play with that typical driving Hawkwind sound and they just could not play any better.  It is a superb listen and each note is just so clean and precise even with it being a live version.  Mint

The classic 'Silver Machine' plays with phenomenal power and depth from the get go.  Lemmy's vocals are so strong and the music is just as strong.  For a final track the audio is so clean and there is barely any distortion on the top end.  The mid instrumental is faultless and the final vocal / instrumental section completes the side with genuine quality.  As you would expect there is such a strong bass sound throughout - a dynamic Mint- version.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Urban Guerilla' plays with exceptional quality from start to finish and again there is no interference.  I cannot fault it and Mint is again an easy grade to give.

The acoustic intro on 'Space Is Deep' plays beautifully with no intrusion and the opening vocal section is just as clean.  The mid instrumental is STUNNING and the sonic quality can only be described 'as new'.  I played it loud and wow the 'sound' just envelops the room in all its majestic power, warmth and depth!  The acoustic finale also plays with imperious quality and Mint is again 100% deserved.  The definitive version.

The intro on 'Wind Of Change' plays with wonderful clarity, there are only a couple of barely audible dust ticks and I cannot emphasise enough just how immaculate the audio is.  It continues in the same precise way and it plays like it has never been played before.  Audio does not get any better than this! Mint

'The Golden Void' ends the album with a sonic quality we have now come to expect!  The sound again pays testament to how well this vinyl has been preserved and it plays with outstanding audio from start to finish.  The clarity and power is first class and I cannot find one single negative.  Yet another perfect Mint version.

In summary this first pressing plays with superb audio with no sign of any interference.  You can tell it's been played a few time as it does have some spindle wear but only on high end equipment I'm sure as it has lost none of its original sonic quality.  The clarity, depth and resonance of the audio could not be any better and in my opinion this is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing.  In conjunction with a lovely cover and a very clean poster the winning bidder will not be disappointed :-)

The Gatefold, Poster & Inner Sleeve

The cover is in great condition with hardly any shelf wear.  There is just one tiny rub on the top edge, one minor crimp on the opening edge and minimal rubbing / creasing on the bottom left corner which you can also see on the reverse side.  It is so clean and has been preserved so well.  The front and back cover are unmarked and the inside of the gatefold immaculate.  A superb example overall.

The large 30" by 20" poster is in excellent condition with no rips and has only a couple of small white scuffs on the centre top panel, a small corner crease top right and blue tac marks on the reverse in each of the corners which have caused no damage.

The die-cut plain white inner just has one small side split but is unmarked apart from a little age related fading down one side.  Minor creasing also.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
