Gnidrolog : In Spite Of Harry's Toenail 2/1D 1st Press 1972

This relatively rare first pressing plays to an incredible standard with no interference of any kind.  I cannot emphasise enough just how immaculate the audio is, the clarity, depth and power is stunning and of course there are a number of long quiet sections on this prog classic.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops and only 3/4 seconds of very light background static on S2 which in no way intrudes on the audio.  This is a FINAL UPGRADE pressing that just could not play any better and is without doubt one of the cleanest albums I have ever heard from this era.  The vinyl does have some very faint mottling but it is obvious it has hardly been played, if at all.  There is no spindle wear on the labels which lends further weight to this theory.

The cover is in excellent condition overall with just some rubbing around the edges and on the spine.  The inner sleeve has light wear only.

This first pressing was only produced in limited numbers and whilst the cover may not be perfect the audio definitely has the wow factor!  There cannot be many around today that play with such 'as new' clarity.  It's a very unique album but the musicianship is superb, definitely worth a listen!

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen.  Under a bright light I can see some faint mottling and a small number of faint hairlines but they have no affect on the superb audio.  When you look under a more forgiving light the vinyl is in lovely condition.  The RCA labels are so clean, they are unmarked and have no spindle wear.
Play grading
The intro on 'Long Live Man Dead' plays perfectly and the powerful opening vocal section is 'as new' with no intrusion either.  The instrumental section the plays with stunning clarity with not so much as a dust tick and the next vocal is just as impressive.  It continues in the same precise way and then the opening section on the second part 'Skull' is just incredible!  It is of course so quiet with a couple of brief silent passages and yet the clarity is comparable to an un-played record!  It proceeds in exactly the same way and I cannot overstate just how clean and 'warm' the music is.  This quiet instrumental section plays with a clarity and depth that cannot be faulted and 'as new' is again a correct description.  The next vocal section is on the same level and as the volume increases there is no loss in sonic quality.  There is no distortion on the top end and the final quiet section plays beautifully without any background as such, just a handful of barely audible dust ticks.  The audio throughout this near 10 minute track is just STUNNING!  There are of course so many quiet sections and yet the clarity is quite simply out of this world!  I have to grade it as Mint as it just could not play any better.
The intro on 'Peter' has no background and then the instrumental section plays with stunning precision.  The two verses play with sublime clarity and again there is no interference whatsoever.  This truly is audio of the highest calibre!  It's incredible to think this album is over 52 years old and it shows you how well a vinyl can play when it has been so well preserved down the decades.  This is another Mint track in every way.
I'm already running out of superlatives but the intro on 'Snails' plays with crystal clear audio and as the pace and volume pick up the playback is superb.  The opening vocal is equal to that and it continues to play with a sonic quality that is second to none.  This is a typical prog classic of light and shade, loud and quiet and each section plays with genuine quality.  The high octane vocal / instrumental near the end is unique shall we say and it plays with phenomenal quality with barely any inner groove distortion on the top end, I'm not sure why I even mention it.  The closing section then plays to the same standard and the entire track plays with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  What a version!  Mint
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The intro on 'Time And Space' is so clean and the opening vocal is perfect basically with only a couple of mega quiet statics.  From then on it plays with exceptional clarity with only a minor touch of very quiet static for 3/4 seconds, nothing intrusive of course.  As the volume increases the playback is flawless and the instrumental section then plays with a clarity and definition sent from the audio Gods!  Each note is so clean and precise, so sharply defined and the next vocal is equal to that.  The remainder plays to the same high end standard and you just have to sit back and admire the audio here.  As stated it is 100% obvious this vinyl has hardly been played and Mint- is more than deserved.  The ending is certainly original and plays with perfect precision.

The acoustic intro on 'Who Spoke' has a remarkable clarity of sound and the opening vocal is just as clean.  It proceeds in the same way with zero intrusion - a short track but put simply it is Mint from start to finish.

The delicate intro on 'In Spite Of Harry's Toenail' plays beautifully and no exaggeration it has that CD like clean aesthetic quality but with the warmth and depth you only find on vinyl.  You can't even hear the stylus running through the grooves!  This is STUNNING audio of the highest quality.  The opening vocal is 'as new' with not even a solitary dust tick and the first instrumental section then plays with, you guessed it, perfect audio.  As the pace quickens there is no let up in quality.  Because the vinyl is so clean the bass sound is so strong and deep and this entire section 'drives' along with real power and depth.  I turned it up to max and there is literally no distortion on the top end - amazing sonic quality!  This instrumental exemplifies just what great musicians they were, the guitar work is phenomenal as is the percussion.  It all builds to a powerful climax and the audio could not be any stronger.  The definitive version but then you could say that for every track on this album!  Another near 10 minute epic that unequivocally grades as Mint all the way through.

In summary this first pressing is spectacular!  That is the right way to describe it!  I know in my gradings at the top of the listing I put Mint- but really I should dispense with the minus here.  Ok there is 3/4 seconds of very light static on S2 but it can be often you find this rare prog classic playing with such stunning precision all the way through.  I know I go into a lot of detail regarding the audio but why not when it is as pristine as this and it is a FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing without question.  It is the most 'complete' version I have ever listened to and will add to any high end collection.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The heavily textured cover is in excellent condition overall and the only issue it has is some rubbing on the edges and the spine.  A little wear on the corners but nothing major and the opening edge has only very minimal handling wear.  Aside from the edges the front cover is very clean with no marking and the back cover just has a little ringwear and an X written in the top corner for some reason.  The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition, a strong example overall.  It has also retained its original shape and structure with no bending or creasing.

The original plain white inner has no side splits or tears and just has a little age related fading around the edges and some creasing.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
