Pink Floyd : Wish You Were Here A-1 / B-3 1st Press
This first pressing plays with superb audio for the vast majority and with a clarity of sound that is very impressive. 'Shine On...' on S1 has only a couple of static clicks near the start but from then on the playback is incredible! The radiophonic sections on S2 have a little static but certainly not an excessive amount and the 'wind' intro on the final part of 'Shine On...' has some static also - these sections are well known for having some background as any avid Floyd audiophile will know. The rest of the album is superb and the classic 'Wish You Were Here' is a fine example of that. The vinyl is very impressive visually with only some light hairlines.
The cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear and as can be seen the original shrink-wrap still encloses the majority of it. The lyric inner is super clean but does have the obligatory split on the bottom edge and the postcard remains in superb condition.
As this is a genuine first press it has the A1 / B3 matrix and the lyric inner is cut on three corners only. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 5' on the S1 label is credited to Waters-Gilmour-Wright, later versions have Waters only. As can be seen this is quite an early first pressing with only two stampers on S1 and just one on S2.

Visual description
The vinyl is in excellent condition and still retains a very impressive glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. I can only see a few faint hairlines with just one on S2 that is a little more obvious but even then you can only see it when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle under a bright light. There is no surface or groove wear and the run out grooves are also super clean and the matrix info can easily be seen. The labels are practically 'as new', unmarked with barely any spindle wear.
Play grading
The slow build up intro on 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part One)' plays beautifully with only two static clicks after 30 seconds. This classic introduction from Wright lasts for over two minutes and the clarity of sound is incredible - there is nothing getting in the way of the audio apart from those two static clicks. Gilmour's first work is faultless, again I cannot believe how 'clean' the audio is, and there are only a handful of minor static ticks during the next iconic passage. As Mason joins in the sonic quality is superb and this high end standard is kept up during Gilmour's next solo, once again I cannot emphasise enough just how clean and fresh the audio is! The remainder of this 'intro' plays with sublime precision and only a very small number of mega quiet dust ticks. The entire vocal section then plays with STUNNING quality - the clarity and depth of sound is exceptional and the 'sax' section is equally as strong. I will grade the intro as Ex- and the remainder as Mint- I think that is a fair assessment of the audio.
The intro on 'Welcome To The Machine' has only a little static but is certainly not loud and there are no clicks or pops. The first verse is 'as new' I can pay it non higher compliment and it continues to play with wonderful clarity and definition. The mid instrumental is flawless and the second verse again has no interference either. Once again I am so impressed by the sonic quality on offer here - the power and depth of the audio is so strong and there is no distortion on the top end. This is a record that has been very well preserved and not played very much over the last 48 years. The final instrumental can also be described 'as new' and the 'industrial' section has only a couple of barely audible dust ticks. The 'audience' section then plays with super clean audio and for once you can easily hear the double soft 'pop' and 'cough' on the final groove. Very similar to 'Shine On...' I will grade the intro as Ex- even the static is minimal but the rest is Mint- for sure.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Have A Cigar' is 'as new' with no intrusion of any kind not even a dust tick. Waters' opening vocal is close to that with only some very light ticks but they are so much in the background as to be negligible, so so quiet! The 'second' verse plays with sublime clarity and Gilmour's end solo is faultless. The radiophonic section at the end has a little static but no clicks or pops so I will grade this part as VG+ and everything before as Near Mint
The radiophonic intro on the classic 'Wish You were Here' always plays with some static on the first / early pressings and is just a matter of how much. There is only a little here and a couple of crackles but again nothing loud. The iconic acoustic guitar section plays very clearly with only very minimal static and the opening vocal plays with stunning clarity and barely any static. It continues to play with superb sonic quality and there is nothing to detract from the 'listen'. Every verse and chorus play with wonderful clarity and definition and the end instrumental is just as impressive. Again I will grade the radiophonic section as VG+ band the rest as Near Mint at the very least. The 'wind' segue into 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part 2)' has some static and some crackle but is not overpowering. By the time the music starts it has decreased significantly and as Wright comes I noticed only a couple of minor ticks. From then on it plays with STUNNING quality and Gilmour's work here is just phenomenal, it plays so well! The one and only vocal section plays beautifully with no intrusion and then the extended instrumental plays with exceptional clarity, each note is so clean and precise. The handover into the final section has only the bare minimum of light static for 2/3 seconds and then plays with great clarity and warmth, the audio cannot be faulted. The long fade out section plays very clearly with barely any static and provides a very impressive finale to this all time classic. I will say the 'wind' intro is VG and from then on Near Mint but as I often say the majority is even better than that.
In summary this very collectable first pressing plays to a very high standard with very little intrusion. A couple of static clicks on S1 and some static and minimal crackle in the places where you always expect it on S2! It is commonplace as stated with these pressings and does not last anyway. Aside from that the clarity and depth of the audio is stunning and even where I have graded S2 as Near Mint the vast majority is Mint it has to be said. The epic 'Shine On...' on S1 is a prime example example of a vinyl so well preserved and only lightly played. Two static clicks aside the clarity is among the most impressive I have ever heard and together with a the 'shrink-wrapped' cover this will add to any collection.
The Cover, Lyric Inner & Postcard
This cover is so often found in poor condition but this is not one of them! The majority is still contained within the original shrink-wrap and the two 'open' right hand corners have only a little wear. The opening edge has only minimal handling wear and one tiny 'nick' which you can hardly see. The other enclosed edges and corners are super clean with no knocks or dings and from what I can see inside the 'shrink' the cover is in great shape with no issues. I can see that the original sticker is on the 'back' of the cover not that it matters! I don't think they were particularly bothered about that when they packing them in the factory! The 'shrink' has a couple of small 'holes' but overall this is a fine example of this iconic cover.
The lyric inner, with the three cut corners, is extremely clean with no marking or creasing on either side but does have the all too common split on the bottom edge. The postcard has the serrated edges and is as close to perfect as is possible with only a couple of minor corner rubs.
