Spellbinding, popcorn oldie on an obscure label out of Hollywood, Los Angeles. We love the sparse melancholy and exotica motifs of "Broadway Broken Heart" with its lonesome, wandering soul atmosphere. A song about a man tired of waiting for his show girl(friend) and his intention to return home to find love again. Clever lyrics with ghostly echo FX to the voice over the closing bars. The general rhythm hook of the guitar and other orchestral elements would appear to be lifted from Pippy Shannon's My Love (For Thee) on Del-Fi label. Others prefer the teen angst pop of "Another Show, Another Town" which has been comped. The lyrical content is connected to sideA as he sings about the same show girl. The vocals are actually by Fred Darian who issued a later version on Pebble Records (please see our other current auctions for this rare gem). Both the Bud and Pebble release are considered to be fine examples of the original Belgium popcorn sound. In 1965, Robie Lester released a version on the Chattahoochee label using the same backing track. Disc cut loud with big production sound. Great for DJs! Superb double-sider with crossover appeal for blue eyed soul - doo wop - country collectors. Recorded at the legendary Gold Star Studios, as used by Wall Of Sound producer, Phil Spector and his Wrecking Crew. Difficult to find in nice condition, like our copy :)
For the moment, our auctions will focus mostly on original 7inch delights from '50s doo wop to '80s synth pop so expect to see:
