VICTOR SILVESTER & HIS ORCHESTRA

THE WORLD CUP CHA-CHA / THE WORLD CUP WALTZ

COLUMBIA DB 7900

1966

Click and listen to our soundclip / mp3 of both sides

Obscure and desirable single by an old school UK bandleader and ex ballroom dancer ;) Features the killer latin mod jazz tune "The World Cup Cha Cha" with fabulous scat chorus a la Barbara Moore Singers - Mike Sammes  - Alan Caddy et al. Victor's bachelor pad lounge sound has been updated with the street savvy soul beat of Soho '66. Jazzy guitar vamps and restrained big band rhythms, counterpoint harmony singers (male and female) and latin percussion with timbales galore. SideB is back to easy listening mode. A romantic, sugary sweet waltz by candlelight with gentle vocals to match. Disc cut loud with outstanding production sound. Great for DJs! Big record with certain Japanese collectors into swinging London pop culture. Should also appeal to fans of Stan Butcher and Voices In Latin. Original 4-prong centre intact. Item originally issued with the authority of The Football Association

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
RECORD - shiny, strong VG++ (closer to M-) regardless of some faint hairlines and light scuffs from storage / a couple of old pressing blemishes / disc cut loud with big production sound / some natural light background noises / original 4-prong centre intact

SLEEVE - not graded - original Columbia label company sleeve has general wear / item from the archive of an important record label who had offices in Milan, hence the archive stickers and pen notations, front and back
LABEL -  some common light wear marks to the 4-pronge centre) / some natural age discoloration / a few faint old dirt marks from storage

After a 2 year gap, Pourquoi Moi Vintage is back :)
