An original 1st press of 'M.I.J.' from 1973 on the UK Purple label. Matrix 1/1/1/1. Etching 'Porkie/Peckie etc'. Please note the labels are consistent with very 1st press and still show 'Gramophone' in the perimeter text. Also, interestingly, this is a CONTRACT pressing possibly by Warners [?] as EMI Middlesex were struggling to meet demand in 1973. There are a couple of indicators - the label has a shallow groove not present on the EMI pressing. The stampers all show as '3' at nine o'clock - but with no corresponding letters at three o'clock. Also the labels do not mention 'Great Britain' at the foot and (Made in Japan) has lost the brackets! I can vouch for the pressing quality having played many a 1st Emi press - it is easily the equal and quite stunning in every way. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover printed by Garrod & Lofthouse. Also included are two generic white inners - identical. I can't say 100% that they're the original inners, but they look original to me.
Vinyl (Ex+) In superb condition and have only seen very light use. Under close inspection there are only a couple of light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. One of the greatest live albums for audio quality and mastered by 'THE MAN' Mr. Peckham - what's not to like! And believe me the audio laid down here has to be heard to believed - absolutely knock-out from start to finish. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Interference is practically non-existent. All we detected was a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments [that's across four sides!!]. Even the quiet sections of 'Child In Time' play clean and that is super impressive. FINAL UPGRADE I'd say...no sweat.
Cover (Ex-) In great shape and has been looked after down the years. A touch of ring wear and a few creases, but nothing that noticeable. The rear is in similar condition no major issues. The interior is pretty much immaculate. Edge wear is light, but there's bit more along the lower edge - although I think this is just how the cover was manufactured. Text on the spine is mostly still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A lovely example.
Inners (Ex-) One 1 inch split otherwise aok.
