Without exaggeration this 1st US issue of David Bowie’s debut album can be called monstrously rare. Perhaps, if you’re lucky you’ll find an opened Stereo copy of this album but finding it in a Mint factory sealed condition is simply impossible. This album was issued in two formats, Mono and Stereo, with the Stereo version, which is impossible to find, coming across significantly rarer than the Mono. The release of this album in the US occurred in August, 1967 on Deram Records which at the time was the sub-label of Decca Records. We can guarantee that this copy contains inside the 1st print red-white Stereo “Made in U.S.A.” labels (The Mono pressing contains the brown-white labels) with the DES-18003 catalog number and framed “Stereo” banner below the spindle hole. Unlike the UK version of the cover which has a white border, this 1st US pressing copy contains the cover with a celestial blue border remaining in a factory sealed condition. All of the record guides indicate that the runout groove of this issue contains the date stamp “4-20-67” on both sides along with the “BellSound” machine stamp identifying the mastering by Bell Sound Studios located in New York.
